What are the steps to convert PNG to CR2 online?

Upload your PNG file using the converter, choose CR2 as the target format, and hit Convert. The service will process the image, preserving its dimensions and color information, then package it as a CR2 file. Once downloaded, you can open it in Canon Digital Photo Professional or other applications that support raw formats. No software installation is required.

Why would someone convert PNG to CR2 instead of using the original format?

PNG is best for web images with sharp edges and transparency, while CR2 is Canon's raw format for editing flexibility in tools like Digital Photo Professional. Converting PNG to CR2 is useful when you need a uniform raw-file workflow or to ingest images into Canon software that expects raw files. It can also help when a project requires CR2 files for archiving or compatibility, even if the source is already a raster graphic.

Does the PNG to CR2 conversion preserve transparency, DPI, and color profiles?

The conversion will preserve DPI settings and color profiles (e.g., sRGB or Adobe RGB) to keep colors consistent. However, CR2 does not support alpha channels, so transparency in the PNG will be flattened onto a white (or black) background. Since CR2 stores unprocessed linear sensor data, the encoded image parameters from PNG are mapped into the raw container; details like original camera make and shot settings won't be present because they never existed in the PNG.
